It’s hard to believe that 2017 is coming to an end. From new categories to collection launches, Sunpan has had a busy year designing furniture. Now we are reviewing our favourite design trends that will catch your eye throughout the new year.
Gold-toned accents on furniture allow designers to elevate spaces without breaking the budget. It’s a trend that can be easily incorporated into both casual and sophisticated settings. Art Deco, transitional and modern styles finished with gold bring a sense of warmth and luxury to various living and lounge spaces.
Bold statements can be made with brushed yellow gold finishes contrasting with sleek leather, as seen on the Karissa. In addition, moodier antique brass finishes, like the caps and footrest on the Tatum barstool, can inject a hint of vintage elegance.
The retro-like look on large leather seating and occasional chairs has taken hold. This look can create an inviting, “lived-in” space that is suitable for urban and mid-century modern settings. Using warm-toned brown, tan and black leathers, you can effortlessly create charming masculine style.
Sophisticated channel tufted leather with an antique brass frame, as seen on our Lincoln armchair, offers a sense of relaxed richness with a touch of retro style. This updated nostalgic look also comes to life with timeless button tufting found on our Donnie sofas and armchairs for a cool, comfortable space.
The market is also seeing a strong demand for velvets throughout the design industry. Daring designs that incorporate the softness of velvet take classic upholstery to the next level. In addition to outstanding designs, pairing bold colours with the luscious texture is a great way to highlight grandeur in any setting.
A benefit to this trend is that velvet is suitable for both feminine and masculine styles; perfect examples of its versatility can be seen in our shapely Hanna armchair and our structured Soho armchair.
We can’t wait to see the many creative ways designers use these design trends in the new year! We always want to showcase our talented partners in the field so don’t forget to tag us on Instagram and Facebook when you’re sharing your projects.
