Travel is one of her primary sources of design inspiration. In each new city she visits, Deborah enjoys touring branded and boutique hotels for the experience to learn from other cultures as well as to stay current on design trends worldwide.

Trends have a place in Deborah’s design portfolio, too. She notes one of the year’s biggest trends will see the line between public and social spaces further blurring. Walls that divided spaces are being eliminated to create interactive and open communal areas. In hotels, lobbies are being designed more like living rooms, where guest can experience a social, fun atmosphere.
When looking to source product, it is important for Deborah to work with industry partners who are reliable and offer cutting edge designs. Gear has sourced Sunpan products on multiple projects throughout her career, stating that our product line is innovative, contemporary and always on trend. She finds that our furniture fits into any design style she is trying to accomplish. Thank you Deborah – you’ve got us blushing!
More Trend Highlights
Lastly, Gear discussed a few more trends she sees continuing to be hot for 2017, as well as new ones emerging:
- Retro: throwback styles from the 60’s and 70’s continue to be hot
- Warm metals: gold and brass retain their statement making status
- Neutrals with a pop: in hospitality settings, the latest trend is to use a more subtle, soothing palette, as opposed to saturated colour, while layering in pops of jewel tones
- Green: it is, of course the colour of the year
